At a recent meeting of the Lake County Juvenile Justice Council, Mark Vargo, PhD, discussed emerging trends in the misuse of pharmaceuticals. The misuse of non-medical Rx & OTC drugs is at an epidemic level, especially by adolescents and young adults. The most eye opening information Dr. Vargo revealed was that there are 10 counties in the entire United States that are the top dispensers of Oxycodone. ALL are in Florida. And LAKE COUNTY is one of them!
The FMA endorsed the Prescription Drug Monitoring Bill, SB 462, which establishes criteria for creation of a basic prescription drug monitoring system and calls for the registration of pain clinics. Governor Crist signed the bill in June.
